When I met Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, I knew we had someone truly different to serve us in Congress. She walks the walk, unlike our current congressman, who is just talk. Miller-Meeks served 24 years in the military on active duty and reserves; her husband was called to active duty following 9/11. She knows firsthand the struggles facing military families. Miller-Meeks is a doctor and business owner, who knows how government bureaucracy affects not only health care, but small business as well. What you may not know is how authentic she really is. Following the destructive flooding, Miller-Meeks and I went to visit a family who lost its home. This was not a photo opportunity for her but a time to listen and understand the struggles of this family and our community. Since that tour, she has stayed in contact with this family, not because of any campaign, but because she cares. Her passion to serve comes from a deep desire to simply speak the truth and be the force of change we need in Washington. Sarah Henderson Cedar Rapids |
