OTTUMWA – Republican candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks announced today her campaign has released its second television advertisement, entitled "Soldier’s Call". The ad was previewed at a special Ottumwa event Tuesday evening and began airing across the Second Congressional District shortly thereafter.
A copy of the script is attached, and the ad is available for viewing on Google Video (video.google.com) under the keywords "Miller-Meeks", or you may view it by clicking on the image below: "Soldier’s Call" recounts the story of the family of Samuel and Jacque Nosbisch of Ottumwa. Sam is currently serving his second tour or duty with the 833rd Combat Engineers unit, based in Ottumwa. One of the missions of the unit is to do "route clearance" for troops and supply convoys, which entails detecting and disarming IEDs placed alongside the roadways.
After his first deployment, Sam said he did not want to have to worry about wearing prescription glasses in Iraq’s harsh conditions if and when he was deployed again. He and his wife Jacque researched doctors in their area, and contacted Dr. Miller-Meeks to perform eye surgery on Sam. In addition to a high success rate among her patients, Jacque knew that Dr. Miller-Meeks’ long service in the U.S. Army would immediately put Sam at ease and create a special bond. As Jacque states in "Soldier’s Call",
We had been saving up our money to have the surgery done, and it actually came to the point when we handed her the check, she refused payment, saying that "when soldiers are called to serve, so must we".
Instead of talking about it, she decided to be part of making things happen.
We were taken aback.
We were so shocked. And grateful. So grateful.
She’s wonderful at what she does."
"Soldier’s Call" is a testament to the sacrifice families like the Nosbischs have made. It also highlights the special qualifications of Dr. Miller-Meeks in her bid to represent Iowa’s Second District.
Dr. Miller-Meeks and her husband (Curt) have over 50 years of combined service in the U.S. Army and Reserves. Dr. Miller-Meeks also comes from a family with a long history of military service, following the lead of her father, a career Air Force non-commissioned officer. Dr. Miller-Meeks understands the sacrifices involved in serving our country, and is ready to answer the call to serve in Congress.
